Roger's handicap is higher than Gary's by 3 strokes (5-2),
so Roger gets strokes on the 3 highest hcp holes
which are 6 (#1 hcp), 2 (#3 hcp), and 8 (#5 hcp).
Stroke holes will be indicated on scorecard in advance.
Hole 1, both shoot par, nobody gets a stroke:  All square.
Hole 2, Roger shoots one stroke higher than Gary, but
Roger gets a stroke, so the hole is tied.  Still all square.
Hole 3, Roger shoots a stroke lower, no strokes at issue,
Roger wins the hole and he is now 1 up with 6 to play.
As soon as somebody is up by more holes than the
number of holes remaining, that guy wins the match.
Gary wins hole 4, the match is again all square.
Gary wins hole 5, and he is now 1 up with 4 to play.
Roger is afraid.
Roger and Gary both par hole 6, but Roger gets a stroke,
so he wins the hole.  Again the match is all square.
Roger wins hole 7 to go 1 up.
Roger shoots 4 on hole 8 to Gary's 5, so he doesn’t
need the stroke to win the hole.  Roger is now 2 up
with one hole to play, and the match is over.
