If an event is scheduled, the Director will be at the course, rain or shine. So will all the other golfers who are wise enough to have learned that the weatherman spoils more good times than the weather ever did. If you decide the weather is too bad to play while you lie at home in bed, you are apt to miss a very good time. Most rain showers around here are very scattered and of short duration...take a chance, drive out to the course. You will seldom be disappointed.
What a great case in point January 20 was! One golfer canceled because it was cold (an alternate quickly stepped in). The Demented Dozen of us had a GREAT time! There were twelve birdies, and five golfers (and three teams!) scored net under par, proving some of us were "hot", even though all of us were cold. But the bitterness was lightened when we watched this guy behind us, wearing nothing but shorts, and a golf shirt. I'm not sure whether he even had socks. Did it get as high as forty degrees? I know the wind gusted to 30 mph at times... Even though our crew wore more appropriate clothing, I'm proud and honored that you showed up and braved the elements to have a helluva good time. |
